Şefkat İşlegen
1958 yılında Izmir'de doğdu.
1978 yılında İzmir Buca Eğitim Fakültesi Grafik Ana Sanat Dalı'ndan mezun oldu.
1996 yılında Eskişehir Anadolu Üniversitesi'nde lisans tamamladı.
Sanatçı Uluslararası Plastik Sanatçılar Derneği
ve Birleşmiş Ressamlar ve Heykeltraşlar Derneği üyesidir.

Şefkat İşlegen was born in Izmir In 1978, she graduated from the department of Fine Arts with the specialization on Graphics at the School of Education at Izmir Buca University. In 1996, she had an additional year of training at Eskisehir Anadolu University. The artist prefers metal and linol in her printing work. She had 35 individual exhibitions, and her works are in several domestic and international collections.Her paintings have
been exhibited in museums, galleries, art festivals and private art exhibits in numerous countries around the world

Turkish artist, Sefkat Islegen expresses a state of meditation in nature through her skillful and colorful linoleum prints of forests and trees. Prints such as In the Forest and Lonely Tree anthropomorphize these tall independent life forms, imbuing them with a sense of humanity—emotions such as sadness, thoughtfulness, and love. According to Islegen, painting is “an activity of thinking and creating, and it is also a way of living.” This philosophy and approach to meditation clearly emerges from her work. Similarly, Australian painter Helen Joynson finds inspiration in the natural environment, though her oil paintings differ greatly in style from Islegen’s. Through a multihued palette and a naïve-styled brush stroke, she evokes joy and spirituality in images of flowers and fields in paintings such as Love Our Planet and Flowers are Fun. Almost Fauvist in style, these bold images of nature are intended to brighten the soul of the viewer with the enriched spirit and energy of nature.

Şefkat İşlegen’s artistic credo is not devoid of dissonant or even grotesque traces and is moving more along international linguistic and stylistic models than in local ones.
The world of her motive is not limited to the Turkish tradition and can be also called universal.
Her linocut works are not far from our graphic perception, for example the texture interpretation and the shaping of surface are typical of the Transylvanian School, but her figures and colors are mainly close to the Latin and South American Schools.
According to her statement, Şefkat İşleğen interprets creation as a thought process in the first place.
For her, creative process is at least as important as creation in its final shape with settled material .Her intellectual process seems to be obvious in another sense too, namely through her accentuated social sensivity. In one part of her paintings – besides the mythological motifs – the simple everyday man and his profane world are present as well. Her linocuts can be partly classified into the conversation piece. On the other hand they rely for transcendent insights and target content implications of higher spheres (Abstraction, The key to Life, Flowers of Life). Beyond the lingual characteristics, the two ridges are made alike by referring to the direct or the indirect presence of man.The artist makes the spiritual trace of human beeing tactile even in the landscapes (Mystery, Forest House) and in some cases emphasizes spiritual meditation (Alone with myself, You and Me).
The material and lingual simplicity of the linocut tchnique shows up in parallel with the master stroke’s decorative effects. But Islegen is a creator who remarks the substance and doesn’t get lost in the pleasure of the spectacle itself. All her artistic tools intensify the essential and the moral expressions. As it were, we might say: beauty is rather in the service of good than in its own sake
